Lab Safety Training

Complete your Duke online safety training before you start bench work, then tell Prof. Chory.

What everyone needs

Duke renames these modules from time to time, so the training portal is the authority on what you personally owe. This is what the lab expects to see on file.

How to get it done

  1. Go to safety.duke.edu and open the Online Training section.
  2. Log in with your NetID at the training portal. It lists what you personally still owe.
  3. Work through everything under Safety Training and Other Training.
  4. If a course you need is not listed there, use Courses Available On-line on the left, then the alphabetical list under Web On-Line Training.
  5. Send Prof. Chory and Ryan your completion record when you are done. You are not cleared for bench work until that is on file.

Training for what you actually do

Autoclave Required before first use and once a year after that. Ryan runs the hands-on part and signs the log. Chemical Hygiene Plan Read it when you join, and again whenever you start using something new. Working with animals Eight Duke modules plus an Employee Health review. Only if your project involves animals. Chemical SOPs Read the SOP for anything you handle: phenol, formaldehyde, cryogens, compressed gases and more.
